For any international journey, the most essential document is a valid passport, ideally with at least six months of validity from your travel date. In addition, most countries require a visa, which should be obtained well in advance. You will also need your flight tickets—preferably round-trip bookings for smoother immigration clearance—and travel insurance, which is compulsory in some destinations and strongly recommended in all cases. It is always wise to carry photocopies or digital copies of your passport, visa, and important ID proofs, as well as emergency contact details, in case of loss or theft.
Visa application timelines vary depending on the country. It is generally advisable to apply one to three months before your departure date. Some countries, such as those in the Schengen region, may take several weeks to process applications, while others like Thailand, Sri Lanka, or Dubai provide electronic visas that are processed in just a few days. Applying early reduces the risk of delays that could affect your travel plans.
Yes, travel insurance is highly recommended for every international trip and is even mandatory in countries like those in the Schengen region. Travel insurance provides financial security in case of medical emergencies, trip cancellations, lost baggage, or accidents. It ensures peace of mind and avoids unexpected expenses during travel.
